OpenAI announces the release of ChatGPT API and Whisper API, an open-source speech-to-text/translation model, to third-party developers. This will help developers build rich ChatGPT applications, and OpenAI will have a new source of revenue outside of the ChatGPT Plus subscription.
The price for ChatGPT API is $0.002 per 1k tokens, and Whisper API is $0.006 per minute. OpenAI has revealed that since December 2022, the cost of its ChatGPT software has decreased by 90%, and many clients have already used its API, including Snapchat, Instacart, and Shopify.
