Neuralink

The first human brain-machine interface implant device by Neuralink encountered some issues but did not affect the demonstration. Several weeks after the implantation, there were instances of wire detachment, resulting in some data loss. The company has made changes, including algorithm modifications, to improve the bits per second. Neuralink manufactures flexible electrodes that must be implanted deep into the human brain, enabling communication between the brain and a computer. The implant consists of 1,024 electrodes and 64 ultra-thin “wires” to transmit neural signals. In January of this year, the implant was first placed in the brain of a 29-year-old man named Noland Arbaugh, who was paralyzed below the shoulders due to an accident. In March, Neuralink shared visuals of the implant. After completing a safety assessment on Arbaugh’s implant, Neuralink aims to implant similar devices in two more patients in the coming months.
