Microsoft has finalized its plans to remove the “Wordpad” application from Windows 11. This legacy software, released in 1995, will no longer be part of the stage. Microsoft announced in a document on the Microsoft Learn website that the Wordpad application will be removed from Windows 11 24H2 and Windows Server 2025. Both operating systems will no longer include the Wordpad components, namely wordpad.exe, write.exe, and wordpadfilter.dll. Microsoft advises developers to avoid referencing these files in their applications and instead use Microsoft Word and Notepad. The action to remove Wordpad initially started with the release of the Windows 11 Canary version in January this year, which was the first version without the application. There is no need to worry, as there will likely be enthusiasts in the future who will provide methods to restore Wordpad.
