Microsoft recently released the Windows 11 preview version, Windows 11 Build 26020, to Canary. This is the first Windows 11 version that no longer includes the Wordpad application. Microsoft stated that both Wordpad and the “People” application will no longer be installed by default with the new installation of Windows 11. TXT files will now open in Notepad, and users are advised to use Word as their word processor. Microsoft mentioned last year that it would eventually remove Wordpad from Windows, but no specific timeline was provided. Microsoft has preinstalled Wordpad in the Windows operating system since 1995.
