According to a Counterpoint report, global PC shipments increased by 3% year-on-year in the previous quarter. Prior to this, the indicator had been declining for eight consecutive quarters due to weak demand and excess inventory. Counterpoint expects PC shipments to grow sequentially in the coming quarters. Therefore, the total shipments for the year 2024 are projected to increase by 3% compared to the same period last year. The analysis firm attributes this growth in part to the rise of “AI PCs” and the recovery of shipments across various industries. With the entry into a new upgrade cycle, consumers are motivated to replace their old devices.
Market leader Lenovo saw an 8% increase in shipments in the first quarter of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023, with PC shipments reaching 13.7 million units, a growth of 12.7% from a year ago. Acer’s shipments increased by 6% to 3.7 million units. Dell, however, experienced a 0.4% decline in shipments.
