Game developer Epic Games plans to release its own app store, called the Epic Games Store, on iOS later in 2024. Despite the criticism Epic Games has directed towards Apple, the latter has reactivated Epic’s developer account. Epic Games has indeed stated that it has regained its Apple developer account. Apple had banned the account in 2020 during a heated dispute with Epic. Apple stated that it was blocking the account because Epic violated the rules by introducing its own payment system within Fortnite. This conflict has been ongoing for several years and has resulted in multiple lawsuits in the United States. Apple is now releasing the account to Epic, unrelated to the litigation, but in response to the European Digital Markets Act, which requires companies like Apple to open up iOS platforms to other app stores. The mobile version of the Epic Games Store is being developed by its Swedish office, which houses three studios and sixty employees. The Swedish division will also further develop Fortnite in Europe.
