According to market research firm International Data Corporation (IDC), Apple became the world’s largest smartphone vendor in terms of shipments in 2023. Apple’s smartphone shipments in 2023 reached 234.6 million units, surpassing Samsung’s shipment of 226.6 million units. This signifies that Samsung, which had held the top position in shipments since 2010, has ceded the throne to Apple for the first time. Apple’s shipments in the fourth quarter of last year grew by 11.6%, comfortably leading the market with 80.5 million units. Samsung Electronics ranked second for the quarter with 53 million units, recording a decline of 10.9%. Chinese manufacturers Xiaomi and Transsion secured the third and fourth positions, respectively, with shipments of 40.7 million units (growth of 22.7%) and 28.2 million units (growth of 68.6%).
