The news aggregation application Artifact is set to shut down. The app was created by Instagram co-founders Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger and launched its beta version in January of last year. Kevin Systrom explained that the “market opportunity for the app wasn’t big enough to justify continued investment in this way. Startups often overlook this reality, but it’s usually better for everyone to make the hard decision earlier.” Artifact used AI to recommend news content to readers, and its summarization tool condensed key points from news articles. The app was named the Best Daily Essential App of 2023 by Google Play.
