Google seems to be considering renaming its “Nearby Share” application to “Quick Share,” which apparently shares the same name as Samsung’s sharing tool. The updated new name was discovered in Google Play Services version 23.50.13. Along with the name change, the icon and interface have also been updated, and it now allows limiting the visibility of “Quick Share” for ten minutes. Tech journalist Mishaal Rahman believes this is not a coincidence, as there are indications that these two tools are being merged or at least made interoperable. According to him, there are some hints in the Play Services app that suggest the presence of a “migration education flow,” but no detailed explanation is provided. Samsung’s Quick Share application is currently only available for Galaxy devices.
