Microsoft announced that for companies that still need to use Windows 10 on their PCs after the official lifecycle ends, Microsoft will provide an additional three years of paid Extended Security Updates (ESU) for this operating system. Devices registered with ESU will receive monthly security updates to ensure the security of these Windows 10 computers. The ESU plan for Windows 10 will include critical and/or important security updates. ESU does not include new features, non-security updates requested by customers, or design change requests. Technical support beyond ESU itself is also not provided. Pricing for Windows 10 ESU has not been announced.
Windows 10 computers running Windows 11 in cloud PCs through Microsoft 365 login will automatically receive these ESU updates at no additional cost. The same applies to Windows 10 instances in Azure virtual desktops.
