ChatGPT accused by Australian local mayor for providing ‘fabricated’ answers

The mayor of Hepburn Shire, Australia, Brian Hood, recently sent a legal “cease and desist” letter to OpenAI requesting that they fix the errors in ChatGPT. This is because when answering users’ questions, the ChatGPT chatbot stated that Brian Hood was imprisoned for his involvement in a bribery scandal involving a company called Note Printing Australia in the early 2000s. Brian Hood’s lawyer stated that while he did work for Note Printing Australia, he was actually the whistleblower on corrupt practices and was never charged with any crime.

The letter warns that if OpenAI does not correct this mistake promptly, they will face defamation lawsuits from Brian Hood in April. OpenAI has yet to respond.
