Regarding the recent call from over a thousand technology professionals to suspend large-scale artificial intelligence experiments, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates stated that such calls for halting AI development will not “solve challenges.” Gates said that it is better to focus on how to best utilize the development of artificial intelligence because it is difficult to understand how suspending it would work globally and any details of suspension would be hard to execute.
Gates said: “I don’t think asking a specific group to stop is going to solve anything… Clearly there are benefits. What we need to do is find areas where it’s particularly challenging. I really don’t understand who they’re talking about stopping, every country in the world agrees not to stop, and why they think stopping makes sense but there are many different opinions on this.
