The April 2023 Android monthly security update is delayed. According to an announcement released by Google today, this update consists of two patch levels:
- Vulnerabilities in the system and framework. Google has fixed ten unique vulnerabilities in the framework, with severity levels ranging from high to medium, including privilege escalation or denial-of-service vulnerabilities. The Android system is affected by sixteen unique vulnerabilities, with two rated as severe and the remaining sixteen rated as high. These two critical vulnerabilities allow for remote code execution when successfully exploited. High-rated vulnerabilities allow for privilege escalation, denial-of-service attacks, and information disclosure attacks. Google also addressed issues in MediaProvider and Wifi components of Google Play.
- A total of 41 different security issues across various components were resolved. Of these 41 security issues that were fixed, four are rated as critical (the highest level) and all will affect Qualcomm components.
The April 2023 Android security update resolves a total of 69 different security issues. Samsung has also issued an announcement regarding its devices’ April 2023 Android security update which fixes twenty-three Samsung-specific vulnerabilities.
