US hard drive manufacturer Western Digital announced on Monday that its network had been hacked and “certain data” had been stolen. The company noticed a “cybersecurity incident” on March 26, in which hackers gained access to the company’s systems. With the help of security experts, it has taken measures to address the issue and is cooperating with law enforcement agencies.
Western Digital did not specify details about the stolen data. It said it was still investigating the nature and scope of the theft, which is in its early stages. As a response, certain systems and services have been taken offline by the company; for example, its My Cloud service is currently inaccessible. This service allows users to view files on their My Cloud NAS via internet connection. Western Digital says it is working hard to restore its infrastructure and services.
