VPN provider Mullvad has collaborated with Tor Project to develop a privacy-friendly web browser named “Mullvad Browser”. The browser, which is available for Windows, macOS and Linux systems on its official website, is based on Firefox ESR like the Tor browser. However, it can only run on the regular internet and does not support connecting to the Tor network. The browser can be used in conjunction with Mullvad’s VPN or as a standalone application.
The aim of Mullvad Browser is to limit third-party fingerprinting and tracking. For example, the browser automatically sets the time zone to UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) and limits the number of installed fonts available for web pages. Keyboard layouts and system languages are also blocked. The browser automatically blocks third-party cookies and trackers while pre-installing multiple extensions including uBlock Origin, NoScript, and Mullvad Browser Extension. Privacy mode is also enabled by default which deletes cookies, cache data, and browsing history after closing the browser.
