Microsoft Teams launches '3D Avatars': Attend video meetings with 3D avatars

While releasing a new preview version of Teams for enterprise users, Microsoft has also launched 3D avatar functionality for Teams users. Users can create their own 3D animated avatars and use them during video conferences. When creating an avatar, Microsoft allows users to customize appearance and clothing. Additionally, if the user reacts with emojis in Teams, the avatar will mimic those actions.

Microsoft Teams will fully launch the 3D avatar feature in May. This is good news for users who do not like being on camera as Microsoft’s data shows that only 30% of Teams participants use their cameras. These avatars are created based on Microsoft’s mixed reality collaboration platform called Microsoft Mesh (official website).
