Microsoft: New Bing will bring more traffic to websites and share advertising revenue with them

Microsoft announced through a blog post its plan to monetize its chatbot new Bing through advertising. Microsoft stated that their goal with Bing Chat is to “bring more traffic to publishers in this new search world.” Yusuf Mehdi, Corporate Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer for Consumers at Microsoft, said that new Bing is attracting more traffic from all types of users. Microsoft has adopted a “unique approach” to increase traffic for publishers, including linking back to sources in the body of chat answers and providing references below chat results with “learn more” links leading to other sources.

Microsoft will also consider the following new ways to bring traffic and share ad revenue with Microsoft Start news source partners:

  • Hovering over links from content sources will display additional links from that publisher.
  • For Microsoft Start partners, placing rich headlines authorized by Microsoft Start next to chat answers helps drive further engagement with content on Microsoft Start and share ad revenue here with partners.
  • Placing ads within the chat experience so contributing partner(s) can share ad revenue alongside their conversational responses.
