Yesterday, most users who applied for the Google Bard chatbot preview have received access, including us. We have tested it out and here are our initial impressions:
- Bard can retrieve the latest data like new Bing, but we found that it often retrieves outdated information.
- There seems to be a noticeable gap in answer quality compared to ChatGPT.
- Bard sometimes returns several answers (drafts) for reference.
- Bard appears to have no limit on the number of questions asked, and it said, “You can ask as many questions as you want, and I will do my best to answer them. I can handle and answer a large number of questions, and I am always learning and improving.”
- When asked how many rounds of conversation it can handle, Bard said, “You can chat as many rounds as you want.” In our tests, Bard has never interrupted the conversation.
- After each answer, Google also provides a “Google it” button, guiding users to search the web on Google.
- Our testing shows that Bard can answer questions about image recommendations, but the image links provided are not available.
- Bard has the ability to draw ASCII art and drew an apple upon request.
