Huawei CEO Ren Zhengfei Talks About ChatGPT in Public Remarks on AI and Industry Applications

Huawei CEO Ren Zhengfei recently spoke publicly about ChatGPT during the Huawei “Challenge Cup Spark Award” ceremony held at the Huawei Banxuegu base in Shenzhen.

Ren Zhengfei stated that the future of AI large models will be fiercely competitive, not just with Microsoft. The direct contribution of AI software platform companies to human society may be less than 2%, with 98% being promoted in industrial and agricultural societies, and widespread AI services require 5G connectivity.

“What opportunity does ChatGPT bring us? It will expand computing power and pipeline traffic, so our products will have market demand,” Ren Zhengfei said, adding that Huawei will focus on AI’s underlying computing power platform and strive to establish an adaptive computing power platform that meets social needs.

He also gave examples of unmanned steel mills in Xiangtan, China, where the entire steelmaking process from refining to rolling is automated, and unmanned cargo handling at Tianjin Port, where containers are automatically transported from ships to trucks after a code is input. After the implementation of 5G and AI in Shanxi coal mines, the number of personnel has been reduced by 60%-70%, with most people working in control rooms on the surface.

“These are large-scale examples of use, and the ultimate contribution to humanity is significant,” Ren Zhengfei said.
