Twitter CEO Elon Musk has announced that he will open source all of the code used for tweet recommendations to the public on March 31st. Twitter may host the code on GitHub, which it has been using for some time.
Musk was very candid – he even volunteered that the tweet recommendation algorithm used by Twitter is too complex and is not fully understood within the company. He also revealed that a simplified approach to tweet recommendations is being developed.
“Our “algorithm” is overly complex & not fully understood internally. People will discover many silly things , but we’ll patch issues as soon as they’re found! We’re developing a simplified approach to serve more compelling tweets, but it’s still a work in progress. ” Musk said.
