Twitter has introduced a new feature called “Bookmark counts” that displays the total number of times a tweet has been bookmarked to Twitter users. The feature is currently available on the Twitter for iOS client and will be expanded to Android and other platforms in the future. It is worth noting that anyone on Twitter can see the bookmark count on a tweet – not just the tweet author, similar to tweet views and likes.
Twitter has emphasized that “your bookmarks remain private” and promised that “we will never show which accounts have added a tweet to their bookmarks”. However, given Twitter’s ongoing layoffs, there is concern that a lack of sufficient personnel could cause a Twitter feature to suddenly malfunction at any time.
