Microsoft is sending emails to specific Windows 11 preview users who can get a physical USB drive from Microsoft for free. Microsoft has a reason for doing this – Microsoft recently added a Canary channel to the Windows 11 preview program, which forced previous Dev channel users to upgrade to Canary and prevented them from downgrading to Dev. The only option to switch channels is to do a clean install of Windows 11. To compensate these users, Microsoft decided to give away free USB drives. – It’s not clear what the specific criteria are for getting the giveaway.
Users who receive the email should verify as soon as possible by following the link in the email (entering the verification code received in the email) to claim their USB drive. Microsoft will give away on a “first come first served” basis, so you need to act quickly. Microsoft needs 6-8 weeks to ship out the USB drive.
The USB drive seems to have been made into an installation disk, as Microsoft’s page is named Windows Insider Program Clean Installation Kit.
