Google introduces new interface for Google Drive, Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Slides

Google announced on Monday the full release of a new interface for Google Drive, Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Slides. The new interface is based on Google Material Design 3 and is designed to simplify the core processes of the products. The new version is available to all Google Workspace customers, G Suite Basic and Business customers, and users with personal Google accounts.

The new interface began rolling out on March 6th and will take three weeks to cover all users.

  • Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Slides: The interface has been significantly redesigned, including improvements to comments, backgrounds, rulers, and grids. The clock icon in the upper right corner shows information such as the document’s latest status and version history.
  • Google Drive: The update highlights key operations such as inline display of files, batch operations for items (delete/share/download), and new search criteria (type, owner, and last modified time). When hovering over a file, options such as share, download, and edit are displayed.
