According to documents released by the Washington State Employment Security Department, Microsoft has laid off 689 employees from several of its Seattle offices. The affected departments include Visual Studio for Mac, Entertainment & Devices, Azure Edge + Platform, among others. These employees were located in offices in Redmond, Bellevue, and Issaquah.
The laid-off employees will reportedly receive two months of severance pay, six months of stock award continuation, six months of medical insurance, career transition services, and 60 days’ notice before dismissal.
Earlier, nearly 2,200 employees in the Seattle area had been let go. Microsoft planned to lay off 10,000 employees earlier this year, and this layoff is part of that effort.
