Neal Mohan, the new CEO of YouTube, has revealed his plans for the future of the platform in a blog post. One of the top priorities for 2023, according to Mohan, is to help more YouTube creators make a profit. YouTube will provide more revenue opportunities for creators beyond advertising by expanding subscription services, investing in shopping, and continuously improving paid digital products. He also revealed that “hundreds of thousands of YouTube channels made their first profits” last year.
Mohan said YouTube would provide the following features and improvements for creators:
- Adding language tracks to live streams and Shorts
- Expanding gift subscriptions to mobile users
- Offering more podcast features for creators, including adding audio and video podcasts for US YouTube Music subscribers
- RSS integration is also coming to YouTube podcasts
- Adding a new creation tool that allows creators to record shorts side-by-side with YouTube videos
- Adding generative AI tools for creators
- Adding more security features, especially for YouTube Kids
Neal Mohan, the former Chief Product Officer of YouTube, took over as CEO after Susan Wojcicki, the previous CEO, announced she would be leaving Google after serving the platform for nine years.
