Qualcomm: Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Phones to Feature Built-in iSIM Support

Qualcomm announced at the MWC 2023 that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 mobile platform has obtained the world’s first commercial iSIM card certification.The iSIM (Integrated SIM) is the next generation technology that directly integrates the functionality of a SIM card into the main processor of a smartphone. This can help device manufacturers save space and reduce manufacturing costs inside smartphones. iSIM also has significantly lower power consumption than eSIM, making it ideal for small electronic devices.

According to data from Kaleido Intelligence, iSIM shipments are expected to reach 300 million by 2027, complementing the eSIM and physical SIM markets rather than suddenly replacing them.
